This week on Off the Charts, we focused on President Obama’s 2012 budget, the economy, health reform, and state budgets.
On the President’s budget, we featured a portion of Robert Greenstein’s statement, Jim Horney highlighted some of the budget’s key aspects, and we demonstrated that, if enacted, the budget would bring down deficits significantly over the next decade
On the economy, we detailed some of the most problematic aspects of House Republicans’ 2011 spending cut proposal and explained why the cuts in job training would affect next year, too. Donna Pavetti discussed the legacy of the TANF Emergency Fund for future job-creation initiatives, and Kathy Ruffing explained why the Social Security reform proposals from Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, the co-chairs of Obama’s fiscal commission, would be a bad place to start when it comes to fixing Social Security.
On health reform, we outlined the costs of the House proposal to defund the Affordable Care Act.
On state budgets, Jon Shure debunked the myth that higher state income taxes cause people to flee to other states.
