This week at CBPP, we focused on poverty and inequality, federal tax, housing, health, food assistance, and the economy.
- On poverty and inequality, we highlighted how the Build Back Better legislation would reduce racial disparities.
- On federal tax, Chuck Marr and Samantha Jacoby explained how Build Back Better requires high-income people and corporations to pay a fairer amount of taxes to reduce the tax gap.
- On housing, Ann Oliva noted how Build Back Better includes major investments in housing affordability. Erik Gartland described how families with children are at increased risk of eviction and how renters of color face the greatest hardship.
- On health, Judith Solomon and Tara Straw explained that Build Back Better would increase health coverage and make it more affordable. Jennifer Sullivan, Jennifer Wagner, Anna Bailey, and Judith Solomon outlined how Build Back Better would make long-lasting Medicaid improvements. Inna Rubin explained how there are more reasons than ever to sign up for health coverage during open enrollment.
- On food assistance, Zoë Neuberger detailed how Build Back Better could substantially reduce children’s food hardship. Dottie Rosenbaum pointed to an increase in food assistance for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands that will take effect this month.
- On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available. We also updated our chart book tracking the post-Great Recession economy.
