Updated Greenstein Statement on Speaker Boehner’s Budget Proposal

| By CBPP

Yesterday, Robert Greenstein issued a statement on Speaker Boehner’s budget proposal based on the documents the Speaker had released to his caucus at that time.  The precise legislative language was issued last night.

We have revised our statement to reflect the language in the legislation as introduced and also to account for developments that have occurred since the original statement was released.

The bottom line remains the same:

President Obama has said that, while we must reduce looming deficits, we must take a balanced approach. The Boehner proposal fails this test of basic decency. The President should veto the bill if it reaches his desk. Congress should find a better way to avoid a default.
